Little Horsie in Peña de Bernal

Little Horsie and Natalia visited Peña de Bernal in the state of Queretaro, north Mexico City.

Peña de Bernal is a “Pueblo Mágico” (Magical Town), it transports travelers to a realm of colonial churches and surrealist gardens. It’s a typical small and colorful colonial village, but it stands at the foot of one of Mexico's most special sites: the Peña de Bernal (Bernal Peak).
This is the view of Peña de Bernal on a clear day.

Rising 433 meters (1,421 feet) Peña de Bernal Natural Monument is claimed to be tallest freestanding rock in the world. In 2009, the monolith (a large geologic feature made up of a single massive stone), was named an Intangible Cultural Heritage site by UNESCO.

It stands at the end of a valley considered sacred by the Chichimeca people. Sadly, the day Willy Wasser visited the town, it was very cold and foggy, so the fog was covering the Peña and it looked more like a Misty Mountain ;)

Bernal is also famous for gorditas, corn and nopal tortillas stuffed with savory meat, cheese, and tender veggies.
